Building your unique map
Confirming design
The first step on your custom map journey is for you let us know about the map you’d like to create, what you'd like to be included and why it is important to you.
This is easily done via our Custom Map Request form, below, or via the Contact Us page.
We will then reach out to you to discuss your ideas in more detail so that we have everything we need to develop a first draft of your map.
Finalising the details
After the draft, we’ll contact you and share the map to talk through the design. We'll ensure we have captured all the elements you want and that your map truly reminds you of a special time or place.
When you are totally satisfied with the design, we move to manufacturing.
Delivery
Following final payment, we’ll carefully pack and securely package your map in our custom sized mailing boxes to ensure your map arrives in perfect condition.
As standard we use Australia Post to dispatch all our maps,
Creating the design
To create the draft we source information from a variety of sources to provide accurate geographic and bathymetric data so that your map is not only beautiful, but accurate too. We will then process and clean this data to make it suitable for map design and eventually laser cutting.
Fabricating your map
Next, we take the finalised design and laser-cut each layer out of Hoop Pine plywood. The land is painted white and engraved with place names and labels to provide a simple and beautiful finish to the map.
Following cutting, we meticulously assemble the map, gluing each layer and island. The map is then placed into a high-quality frame, secured using premium adjustable Fletcher-Terry frame points and secured with Kikusui picture framing tape to ensure dust cannot enter the frame.
